What Is The Best Color Scheme For A Winter Wedding?

Winter is a beautiful time to get married, with the cool air, the snowy backdrops, and all of your friends and family just itching for a reason to get dressed up and party.  But when spring, summer, and fall all bring their own anticipated colors, what are the best colors to choose for a winter soiree?  Here is a look at a few of our past weddings to give you some inspiration for a perfect winter wedding.

Icy Blue

Why not stick with the color that is symbolic with frosty weather and glistening snowflakes?  Blue is a cool tone that matches the weather outside while still remaining serene and beautiful.  This wedding below show by Tracey Buyce shows a mix of steel blue and royal blue to give a little contrast to this quintessential cold weather color.

Holiday Red

This wedding, shot by Bailly Photography, took place in December and the couple chose to focus on the perfect color for that month - red.  Keeping with this rich warm tone they gave a nod to the Holidays with evergreen sprigs and frosted pinecones, without going full blown on a Christmas theme.  And with accents of golds and whites they had all the elements to tie this classy December wedding theme together.

Natural Neutrals

If you are afraid of choosing the wrong color why not stick with a beautiful neutral?  Browns, ivories, taupes, and sage green tones all become a beautiful background when pops of bright accents are paired with them.  This wedding, photographed by Niki Rossi, shows how you can begin to think ahead to spring by choosing soft sage green, chocolate brown and pretty pops of pink.

Think Outside The Season

And lastly, some couples choose to not let the season dictate the color scheme or theme of their wedding at all.  Winter white goes with everything, right?  A perfect example is with this couple who were brought an incredibly bold vision for their day.  Shot by Tracey Buyce, this couple chose to mix bright pinks and corals with milk glass, clementines, charcoal sequins, and soft gray chevron.  There's nothing quite like creating an oasis indoors for a fun and festive winter celebration!

Feel free to leave us a comment to let us your favorite color for winter weddings!

xoxo,

Shannon

Danielle and Daniel - September 6, 2014

Dan and Danielle were married on September 6th, 2014.  Let me tell you Danielle is a remarkably calm bride.  I began working with Danielle and Dan four months before their wedding, when every bride’s worst nightmare occurred.  Danielle received a call letting her know that her venue had been double booked for her wedding day and that she couldn't continue as planned with having her wedding there.  So here was Danielle four months out from the big day with no venue but she wasn’t fazed - she knew she was still marrying the man of her dreams and we were going to help her make it happen!  As it turned out the NYS Museum was available and it turned into a spectacular day!

Danielle and her ladies were treated like royalty from the lovely stylists Heather Flansburg of Executive Cuts and makeup artist Amy Michaud who dazzled the girls with beautiful vintage looks.  Danielle wanted her wedding to feel as though you were stepping back into the roaring twenties and her wedding hair and makeup definitely emulated her theme.  Laura Andrea Harris of Laura AndreaHarris Photography captured stunning portraits of Danielle with her DIY brooch bouquet before we headed over to the museum.

Due to the weather we had to move the ceremony inside, and the carousel instantly became the most amazing backdrop.  Guests were seated on either side of the 10,000 fresh white rose petals that filled the ceremony aisle.  The cutest little ring bearer carried an art deco sign made by Danielle reading “Here comes the Bride.”  Danielle surprised Dan and walked down the aisle to his favorite song, 'The Man in Me' by Bob Dylan.  It was such a special moment as the two locked eyes and joined together to begin their life as husband and wife.  As they sealed their vows with a kiss the carousel lit up and began to play!

Guests enjoyed a fabulous cocktail hour complete with a champagne tower.  They later found their way to their seats by way of hand labeled silver champagne splits.  Tables were topped with black satin table clothes silver art deco table numbers and stunning white flowers from Fleurtacious Designs.  Guests enjoyed a spectacular dinner from Birch Hill Catering, and Linda and her team of servers were fantastic.  The Silver Arrow Band kept the party going all night and guests finished everything off with a delicious slice of Albany skyline themed cake from Zachary’s Pastry Shoppe.   Also on hand to make this day spectacular was Albert Gnidica from the NYS Museum and trolley rides from Advantage Transportation Group.

Dan and Danielle were so much fun to work with they truly had a unique vision for their day and all of the small details really brought about their roaring twenties theme.  Dan and Danielle I wish you both the very best in all that you do, it was such a pleasure getting to work with you.  Hope to see you soon!

Xoxo Aissa

Kristen and Sean - April 27, 2014

I had the privilege of coordinating Kristen and Sean's beautiful wedding at Saratoga National on April 27, 2014. I could tell from my very first Skype call with them that they were going to be a fun couple to work with, and they certainly lived up that! It was evident being around them that they were best friends and their laughter and positive energy were completely contagious. Not only were they awesome people to work with, but they planned a beautiful wedding that had a few extra special touches that ensured every guest had a great evening.

Their wedding day started off with a touching ceremony led by Rev. Sebastian Pierro at St. Peter's Church in Saratoga Springs, NY. Kristen looked stunning and was certainly the star of the show in her gorgeous gown, but the 5 little ring bearers certainly left their impression on the crowd. 4 of the little boys were Sean's nephews, and 1 was Kristen's nephew. They looked so handsome in their suits and even managed to walk down the aisle by themselves!

After the ceremony, Kristen and Sean made sure to spend some time with friends and family before heading to the Saratoga Race Track from some fun and stunning photos, taken by Tara Wiley Photography. They also made sure to take advantage of Saratoga National Golf Club's stunning scenery with a few additional photos around the property before heading inside for their reception.

The band Jeremy Hoyle and the Strictly Hip kept the party going throughout the reception, and the late night snack table certainly helped to keep the energy level high. Guests who dared brave the cold had the option of enjoying hand rolled cigars from Habana Premium Cigars out on the patio, and many took advantage of the opportunity! There was also a beautiful tea bar where guests could bag their own tea blends to take with them at the end of the evening. It was a simple but elegant touch on an already beautiful evening. You could instantly tell that Kristen and Sean were thoughtful of their guests, and I can say with certainty that it was an enjoyable celebration for everyone that attended!

A special thank you to all of those involved in making this such a memorable event and for being a pleasure to work with. Beyond those already mentioned, Traci and the staff at Saratoga National Golf Club ensured a flawlessly executed event, while Make Me Fabulous salon created gorgeous looks for Kristen and her bridesmaids.  Tara Wiley was there to capture all of the special moments and details throughout the day, including the beautiful floral arrangements from Piccirillo Florists.

Kristen and Sean, it was a pleasure getting to know you during the course of your wedding and thank you for letting me be a part of it. I wish you both all the best in marriage and in life!

xoxo
Melissa

Meghan and Travis Leave WPP A Beautiful Review!

Meghan and Travis were married in Lake Placid on October 18, 2014.  They worked with me for their wedding planning and had WPP Planners Melissa Jacobsen as their day-of wedding coordinator.  They just posted a review of our work on Wedding Wire and it gave me chills!  Thank you so much you guys for your incredibly kind words!!

"Working with the Wedding Planning Plus team was simply phenomenal. It was evident from our first conversation with Shannon Whitney that we were working with a seasoned pro. She quickly and efficiently counseled us through choosing a venue, DJ, florist, caterers, etc. But, what really made an impression on us was the authentic interest that Shannon had in making our wedding day perfect for us. She provided options and ideas, but when she felt that a certain element would help produce the experience we were looking for, she took the time to walk us through her vision. For example, she suggested that we do a “first look” in order to be able to spend more time with our guests after the ceremony. Who knew? It was a fantastic idea! Melissa Jacobson was our day-of coordinator. But, she was so much than that. A month before the wedding, right as the pressure and stress started to build, Melissa stepped in and coordinated all of the last details with ease. Each week when we spoke on the phone, I came armed with an agenda. But, there was no need because Melissa was always two steps ahead of me. Our conversations were so efficient, that we would end up just laughing and chatting excitedly about the wedding day. Our wedding was in Lake Placid, NY in late October, and it was a dream come true. Yes, it rained. Yes, someone locked me out of my room. Yes, there was a completely over-the-top wedding guest. But, I had not a worry in the world. Melissa was there at every turn, taking care of all of the details, large and small. She was cool and collected the entire time. The wedding party and our moms raved about Melissa’s famous agenda and what a phenomenal job she did. And, I don’t want to ruin the surprise for other couples, but Melissa and her intern put an extra special touch on the day that we were so happy to come back to after the reception. Wedding Planning Plus met all of our expectations. Our wedding was perfect, and perfectly us."
